CZANTIAGO is now in training at Julie Winkel's Maplewood Stables, Reno, NV
and is making great progress.

A horse training video, of a big kid (6' 2) on our three year old colt, Supreme US National Futurity colt CZANTIAGO.  Lisa took some video last weekend (mid December) where CZANTIAGO is spending the winter in CA with Michelle Mahoney Training Stable - the Mahoney's have shown seven National Champions over fences and one Supreme Champion in-hand stallion for us over the years.

CZANTIAGO is ridden in the video by Cody Mahoney, who showed him at the Arabian Sport Horse Nationals, in-hand. Cody was always a good rider, and has learned even more in his six months in Ireland.  Still pretty rudimentary work here, the colt is trying to figure out what to do with the iron in his mouth, but goes freely forward in spite of that.  He shows his good minded attitude and is already doing the right sort of upward and downward transitions. This is the fifth time the 3 year old has been ridden, and those of you have started horses will appreciate his good balance and excellent response to his rider at this stage of training.

CZANTIAGO’s pedigree is a wonderful balance of the best of the athleticism and beauty exhibited in the Spanish Arabian.  For his breeders, Dave and Molly Stanley, (who have owned more than 500 Spanish Arabians in Spain and the USA through thirty five years of breeding Spanish Arabians; see importation notes), CZANTIGO fulfills the hope and promise of his pedigree.  He is a beautiful boy, who exudes charisma and quality.

His balance and symmetry are beautiful from any angle, when he is standing still
or in motion.  You can see behind CZANTIAGO’s bold and fearless gaze an extraordinary and ‘sympatico’ equine mind.  Altogether, CZANTIAGO is an “exceptional young stallion” (Judge Patrick Bostwick’s remark), a true Arabian Sport Horse.

In heritage, CZANTIAGO is a Classical Spanish Arabian.  To look closely at his pedigree, you will find that every top stallion line traces to CONGO through TABAL.  TABAL (CONGO x HILANDERA) is legendary in his legacy of beauty and talent in both sons and daughters.  Many are owned by the State Stud of Spain (Yeguada Militar), and also by a number of private breeders.  We have visited two private Arabian studs, each founded solely through the descendents of one daughter, each, of TABAL

Near Madrid is Yeguada Flor de Lis, owned by S.A.R. Princesa Teresa de Borbon, Marquesa de Laula. NEVISCA (TABAL x CAMPERA by AQUILITADO) was a
gift to dna. Teresa from her husband Inigo, Marques de Laula.  NEVISCA was the foundress of Yeguada Flor de Lis, producer of many Spanish Supreme Champions.

In the Santa Ynez Valley of California, OM EL ARAB, owned by Sigi Constanti, has established an international program with many Champions here and abroad, from the descendents of the TABAL daughter *ESTOPA (x UYAIMA by BARQUILLO).

CZANTIAGO’s dam PASCION S is descended from TABAL through her sire *ESPERANTO (by MARMOL by TABAL) and her dam’s sire GEBEL TARIK (by JACIO by TABAL).  PASCION S (*ESPERANTO x *IBERIA) was Champion Mare of the Pacific Coast Arabian Sport Horse Classic in 1996, the first Arabian Sport Horse Show held in the USA.  PASCION S was also Champion mare, Spanish Futurity, at one, two and three years.  PASCION S is dam of herd sires TOBASCCO and YO, (x *S S ORION) and AL EXSTATIC (x EXODUS I+//).

CZANTIAGO’s granddam *IBERIA has had a career as a Hunter, both in the Hunt Field, where she earned her Certificate as a Recognized Field Hunter with Los Altos Hounds, and in the show ring, as Canadian National Champion Working Hunter (first in all three rounds).  *IBERIA also won many blue ribbons in leadline for Stanleyxgranddaughter Katie.

*IBERIA produced four daughters, PASCION S, ROSE SR SWEET and VAQUERA
(X *ESPERANTO) and CHOCOLAT KISS (x SIEMPRE CIATO).  PASCION S and ROSE SR SWEET have produced SHN Futurity Champions.  *IBERIA, 1986 grey mare, (GEBEL TARIK SSB x KADOFA SSB) is happy to be again in the show ring with Cameron Yeatman, age 8, showing Walk-Trot and again winning Championships.

In CZANTIAGO’s pedigree, we find grandsire GHADAMES (grandson of TABAL), Spanish National Supreme Champion in-hand and Nation’s Cup Champion 1981. GHADAMES was purchased by Maj. PWS and Joanna Maxwell, exported from Spain to England, there won the title of British National Sire Produce Champion at Ascot .  GHADAMES was sold to Brazilian road builder Sebastian Camargo, and has offspring in Brazil.

GHADAMES (JACIO x LOPAZ) and GEBEL TARIK (JACIO x NOMBELA – whose dam was LOPAZ) are 7/8 brothers, and both are grandsons of TABAL.  LOPAZ was a famous mare in Spain, and was exported to an Arabian breeder in Peru at age 22.

GEBEL TARIK was three year old Champion stallion of Spain in 1981.  His dam NOMBELA was Spanish RES CH Produce of Dam, shown with GEBEL TARIK and daughters BRETANA and DELICIA.  GEBEL TARIK was a driving horse in Spain.

CZANTIAGO’s granddam *KADINA (TABAL x BETONICA) was also owned by Maxwell’s Lodge Farm Stud.  Joanna Maxwell told Molly that *KADINA had a tremendous talent for jumping. *KADINA and IAGO (Spanish Natl Champion Jumper and Champion jumper of Southern Spain at 2 meters), were full brother and sister, so jumping talent lies strongly in the family and comes to CZANTIAGO from his sire *GRANIZAR (GHADAMES x *KADINA).  It appears to come strongly through the blood of BETONICA (MAQILLO x SAKLAUIA YEDRAN), gift from King Abdullah to Spain's General Franco in 1946.

In pedigrees, as in life, balance is important.  Another look at CZANTIAGO’s pedigree shows that his four great granddams are all URSUS descendents, LOPAZ, a MALVITO granddaughter, BETONICA, a MAQUILLO daughter, CANTINERA II (the ‘Queen’ of Spain), a MALVITO daughter, and KADOFA,  granddaughter of MAQUILLO.

This classic cross of the SEANDERICH line (CONGO, JACIO, TABAL, MARMOL, GEBEL TARIK) and the URSUS line (MALVITO, MAQUILLO, ZURICH, GHANDHY), the two most influential founding male lines in Spain, has proven best time and time again.  Now, as we are several generations descended from these founders, we can best utilize their inheritance through their best proven get and grand get.

One final thanks to this list of outstanding ancestors must go to KADOFA (ZANCUDO x OCALINA), chestnut1969 YM mare, purchased by Dave and Molly at an auction of the Yeguada Militar.  In the subsequent years, KADOFA produced four daughters to four stallions at the Stanley Ranch near Seville, Spain.
These four mares are: *IBERIA (x GEBEL TARIK), *EFIGIE (x MARMOL), *GALAXIA (x NEGAL), and *JEZABEL SSB +//, (x *DIAMANTE).  All four were Regional Champions in a variety of classes and disciplines, Pleasure Driving, Informal Combination, Country Pleasure, Country Pleasure Driving, Show Hack, Hunters, Jumpers, Hunter Pleasure, Hunt Seat Equitation.  Three went on to be US and Canadian National Champions, *IBERIA, *GALAXIA SSB and *JEZABEL SSB +//.  A friend said “You should put up a statue to KADOFA!”

Comments from people who have seen CZANTIAGO's training video:

WOW ..... Czantiago  has  grown  from  the  handsome World  Champion  kidlet  of  2008  to the  alluring  tall  young  man  of  late  2010...what  a  balanced  trot  and  his  canter  is to  die  for...Even  with  Cody's  6'2  or  is  it  6'3  frame?  Still  carries  him  great...
Are  you  going  to  go  into  dressage  full  time  or  into  jumping?  Or  both  eventually...hmmmm.  He  could  go  any  way  because  of his  balance...how  exciting  for  you  all....
Summer

Molly, he looks SPECTACULAR! It's amazing to me that after only five rides, with a big rider, he is so perfectly balanced, free in his shoulder, and underneath himself.  Lisa got some great footage of his extension -- REALLY impressive!
Laurie

Molly, you should be ecstatic with this horse. I certainly am for you!  Thank you for sharing this video.
Susan

Absolutely stunning!  This colt has it all . . . . beauty, brains (obviously!), ability, and natural fluidity of movement!
I can't imagine what this guy will look like in the show ring with a year or two of training under his belt!
Annie

Hello Czantiago, congratulations, pretty boy! Nice movement. Good job, Cody Mahoney. Nice encouraging seat and legs that hold Czantiago in check...within a lovely, fluid. learning "frame". A pleasure to watch. Thank you for sharing your video, Molly and Lisa. "Pretty is as pretty does" and here we have beauty 'excelling'.
Greta

Oh Molly, he is so beautiful, so smooth and so balanced that I could not take my eyes off him, I never even noticed how big Cody was on him, Czantiago was the only thing I saw.. just love his hind end, and when I saw him under saddle, I had flash backs of his sire, even with his injured knees, *Granizar had beautiful movement, something all his foals that I raised had also.. Pascion is a great mare, and I am still in awe that you chose your best mares to breed to my boy.. the niche was excellent as Czantiago is truly a horse that will raise the bar and set the standard for many horses to follow.. seems you definitely got your dream horse, and I am so very happy that *Granizars blood will continue through his most elegant son Czantiago..Pascion is worth her weight in gold..what an incredible broodmare.. best of luck with your special boy.. I have no doubt that he will win more than his share of National titles.
Pattie

Molly - You've always had nice horses, but tis one is RELLY nice.  Beautiful, a lovely mover, and so well balanced.  Congratulations, he should have a phenomenol future.
Susie

Absolutely love the video. He sure looks fantastic and can't wait to see where he will go!
Lisa

Molly,
Thank you so much for sharing this footage. To see a horse being trained so beautifully.
But also the wonderful horse that he is, a blessing to train.
What a testiment to your continued breeding for soundness of mind and body.
I do not get a window into your world all that often.... and..... "be still my heart"!!!
It was wonderful indeed.
Nancy

Dear Molly,
Thank you for sharing this video with me!  Today is the first time I could look at it. It is a video to be very proud of!  It is truly a great endorsement to Czantiago’s breeding! I watched a young stallion that was accepting and receptive. Czantiago moved forward with great impulsion and animation with Cody on his back, a bridle and a bit in his mouth. I am truly amazed that it was only his 5th time to be ridden. They must have worked a lot with him on the ground 1st to get the trust that produces that kind of movement under saddle. Cody rode steadily and appeared very light and balanced in the saddle.  I also saw that he appeared to have a light touch on the reins.  Please pass it along how great I thought they looked together. I can’t wait to see the next video of Czantiago’s progress.
Congratulations!!!
Kathy
