(HABON II SSB x SABA SSB), 1982 Classical Spanish Chestnut mare
Legion of Supreme Honor *DISCOTECA +/ was bred by Stanley Ranch in Spain and imported at the age of two. *DISCOTECA +/ began her
show career in Halter and English Pleasure, immediately showing her winning
colors by capturing blue ribbons and Championships.
When Lisa needed a horse
to ride in the hunt field, *DISCOTECA +/ was trained to jump and it became
clear that she had enormous talent in this area, and soon catapulted
to new heights in the show ring, winning major Championships in Working
Hunters and Jumpers.
After a few years off from showing to produce several offspring (her only daughter was ISABELLA I by *PADRE) and as a Field Hunter, she re-entered the show ring in 1996.
*DISCOTECA +/ was Grand Champion High Score Sport Horse of the inaugural Pacific Coast Arabian Sport Horse Classic 1996, with firsts in Mares in–hand, Jumpers, Working Hunter Amateur Owner and Open. *DISCOTECA +/ and her daughter ISABELLA I were shown in Sport Horse Mares in-hand, always placing at the top of their classes, often Champion and Reserve Champion. In 1997, *DISCOTECA +/ was Champion Mare and Champion Jumper of the Pacific Coast Arabian Sport Horse Classic, Region II Champion Jumper and Reserve Regional Champion Working Hunter, Region III Reserve Champion Working Hunter AAOTR. At the US Nationals, *DISCOTECA
+/ prevailed in the Jumper class, and on into the second and third jump-offs
with clean rounds in the fastest time to become US National Champion Jumper
1997.
Note: *DISCOTECA +/ was also US National Champion Working Hunter AAOTR, with unanimous first places from all three judges in all three hunter rounds, two over fences and one under saddle, for a total of nine first places to win the National Championship. *DISCOTECA was fifteen years old in 1997 She spent five seasons as a field hunter, winning her Certificate as a Recognized Field Hunter with Los Altos Hounds. *DISCOTECA +/ and daughter
Lisa Stapleton were ‘Totally Tops’ for the Arabian Horse World’s 1997 Honor
Roll. Lisa wrote:
"The course is well
designed and tricky. The first jump has been raised several inches
so we take a forward-moving, steady approach that will send us on a straight
line to jump number two. I encourage my mare to increase her speed
and stride around the corner and we are onto the number three combination.
This was a vertical jump with a short one stride to a big Swedish oxer.
*DISCOTECA is very athletic and negotiates it easily and we race to jump
number four. While in the air over four, I am already looking around
the corner and thinking ‘whoa’. Two horses have slipped on this corner,
one badly. We power out of the corner to jump number five and with
only one jump left I am leaning forward into the final turn and grinning
ear to ear as she clears it. Our time is announced as the fastest
so far at 27.65 seconds and we have done it! The final two horses
have very respectable rounds, but we have won the first Championship of
the 1997 Nationals by six-tenths of a second. As we take our victory
lap I recall the long road we have traveled to win this spectacular award,
a team effort by my family and trainer Michelle Mahoney.”
*DISCOTECA +/ had a wonderful show career, accumulating two National Championships, a National Reserve Championship, three Top Tens, two Regional Championships, two Regional Reserve Championships and a Top Five. She had wins in Halter, English Pleasure, Hunter Pleasure, Hunter Hack, Working Hunter, and Jumper.
*DISCOTECA’s heritage
lives on through the offspring of her daughter ISABELLA I. Granddaughter
